Dry January
Posted on January 1, 2019
Description:
Is there even a case against quitting alcohol for one month? I canโt think of one other than the sweet sweet taste of my Balvenie DoubleWood. I was just going to take the month off from drinking, but that seemed like a shareholder decision. Maybe we can all do itโฆ together?

It's always good to start off the year with some kind of fast. I quit caffeine in 2017 and sugar in 2018. I might join you in quitting alcohol at least for a little while, this year.

Go on a trip. Enjoy life, drink a little, not to excess, but donโt try and conform to absolutes.

Unless you have a concern that you are dependent on alcohol, I don't see a point to depriving yourself of one of life's pleasures.

This was a tough one because I am literally having a glass of the whiskey from the bottle you sent me back in ~2013. I'll vote yes to help you with your first month goal of the year.

I think it can be interesting to cut back on alcohol even if itโs not a problem for you. Better for health, too. No significant downside. I vote aye.

I vote no because this isnโt something you should do without wanting it. Take sobriety seriously, or not at all.

Then I'll vote yes because you shouldn't take anything too seriously..? ?

You should always stop using any harmful substances. Although I agree with ben e: take it seriously. I'd suggest you give us a small update every week on your progress, and ask us again at the end of the month for an extension of the alcohol-free period.

On that note, I'm going to make some pot pies.

It's a yes for me on this one. Lots of potential benefits to be had. Would be intrigued to hear how this impacts your physical health, motivation, and reward systems.

I'm doing dry January too. First you giving it a try but I can see it becoming an annual thing.

I was sober for two and a half years before four of our fellow service members died on a boating accident.
It will definitely help!
Good luck sir you got this!

If you have to ask: I vote Yes. Alcohol is a mindfuck. Proceed with caution and have fun!
