Computer and Internet Before Mattress

Posted on July 30, 2017

Description:

I’ve slept on a borrowed inflatable mattress since I moved to Los Angeles. My plan was to buy a mattress from the internet after my first paycheck from the new job. And then, maybe the month after, I'd get an iPad Pro and start internet service.

But it's been three weeks and I think I need to adjust my priorities. No internet at home and using a borrowed 11-inch 2011 MacBook Air means most days I stay late just so I can have some good internet time. At home all I have is my iPhone and service is a little spotty.

Proposal: Make computer and the internet a priority. Then buy a mattress (from the internet) in October or whatever.

Bed for good sleep, work for good work. This is a rare opportunity before more (inevitable!) comforts come to dig deeper into your being and local surroundings.

Why not walk 1.5 blocks to c&j's house, lay in their hammock and surf the internet while oranges fall into your lap and tropical birds alight on your head?

I say nay! Prioritize quality sleep and take advantage of this lesser-internet period to explore and acclimate to the many stimulating changes around you.

A good night's sleep is more important.

I agree with others before me, please do take time to explore your new surroundings and rest comfortably when you can. Work will always be there and the internet.

Sleeping on an air mattress for an extended time is a bummer. You deserve a real bed.

Mike can fall into a restful sleep while sitting in a folding chair. Swear to god, I've seen it. But if he's lacking a solid connection to the internet things could get real hairy. I urge you all to change your vote to yes.

@Marcus I stand by my original vote, although... I can be bribed, or my shares can be bought out ?

Why not consider a Windows based solution. For more economical than an iPad Pro.

If you were working from home I'd say internet, but if you have internet at work then home is for better offline things. Maybe time to catch up on reading and take advantage of no internet at home.

Absolutely, get a computer. No question.

Good sleep should be the #1 priority! Read more books for entertainment! There is a great library right by your house: https://www.lapl.org/branches/arroyo-seco.

Sleep > Internet. This can be a period of your adult life where the internet isn't always at your disposal.

Two more months of subprime sleep will be worse for you in the long run than missing out on some internet time--and this is coming from the guy who can't live without the internet day to day. I vote bed.
