New Project: Crowdsourced Erotic Fanfic

Posted on February 8, 2017

Description:

This will be a work of self-published ghostwritten crowdsourced crowd-funded faux-autobiographical erotic fan fiction.

I've written a quick overview and given it to a ghostwriter. She's working on the first section and each month I'll allow people to vote on major plot points using a modified version of the KmikeyM software.

There is no greater honor than being immortalized in erotic fan fiction. But let's be honest, that isn't likely to happen to most of us. I'm taking matters into my own hands. Well, "our" own hands...

I don't know enough about erotic fiction to make the right calls, so people will vote on key plot points. This will be like a collaborative "Choose Your Own Adventure."

I'm almost 40. There isn't much chance I'm going to become a dashing globe-trotting billionaire bad boy conquering the world in business and sexual encounters.

Budget: We don't need a lot to make this happen! I have estimated I need about $1000 to cover the technical infrastructure, get some help with book design, and bringing in a specialist to spice things up. Instead of using KmikeyM funds the plan is to launch a crowdfunding campaign and allows backers both a copy of the final product as well as participation in the shaping of the story.

I think Chuck Tingle (http://www.chucktingle.com/ebook.html) should write this.

$1000 doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm worried that the premise has limited appeal and the demand won't be high enough to support the investment of time and money required.

That's the great thing about launching a crowd-funding campaign. It only happens if the money is raised!

There doesn't appear to be a question in this "question".

Fair point. It's a proposal for a new project. Yes = DO THIS and No = Find something else to do.

I think this is a great use of your time and energy β€”Β it creates a tangible product with low risk due to crowdfunding.

Listen to 'My Dad Wrote a Porno' for inspiration, perhaps?

Shouldn't the ghostwriter get paid too? (Also, whatever happened to the "proposal proposal" question which PASSED. Where is the proposal?)

I am voting yes - this sounds entertaining and like it will add some interest to the K5M portfolio and persona - but I'd really like to know more about the economics of the self-published erotica industry. Have you done any research on the market? How will you reach your audience? And what ROI counts as "success"?

There is no way this will make money, but I'm selfishly voting yes because I want to read it. Also, this lead to some good press opportunities.

Changing my vote since this seems like a good, low-pressure way to kickstart work on the K.D.E.
